Yes my Espanol esta muy mol. I should have been more focused in high school Spanish classes, something that is easy to do, focus in high school, right? Raging hormones, distractions galore, no clue how mas importante your lessons could be, would be, in future Michael’s world. Well here we are, spending a day as true tourists, in the lovely, bustling city of Buenos Aires, and working our way through a verbal translation blender. Deliciously a sucio mess!
Today we were treated to a day of perfect weather and of true South American hospitality. Drew’s amigo Facundo and lovely wife to be Paula picked us up at our hotel and drove us around for a day of sightseeing, visiting those monuments, edificios, parks and other local spots that residents of any city take for granted, and many times never visit themselves, until they have guests. Today was one of those days. The day I was almost left behind as I waited, patiently as possible, for freshly squeezed nahrano juice. Savvy Entrepreneurs would notice immediately she has an inability to scale…though she was efficient as one can be hand squeezing fresh oranges. Muy bueno!
I tried some street vendors wares: popcorn ( not really that great and was proffered by a homeless guy so he got the corns), some kind of puffs (horrible, dry, yuk! didn’t finish the first one) , “honey” nuts (had about half then tossed), but I was hungry and a bit hung over, from our late night before. See BA gets rolling about 10:30 pm, FOR DINNER. Then, well you know the math. It’s dinner ends about midnight-sih, then you hit Palermo, Hollywood and SOHO, till LATE!
In a line where I had to politely explain to to separate gentlemen the order of who was in what position in line. Esta bueno, it helped me practice my numbers in Espanol. The juice was well worth the wait, agreeing with that was everyone I shared a taste with. This is where is Congress and their equivalent IRS buildings are located, the Palacio del Congreso de la Nación Argentina. Our third stop, photos below, is from the Old Town, San Telmo, filled with feather duster guys, puppeteers, jewelry vendors, and so much more. Definitely a cool vibrant spot to do some shopping, plus an antique sale in the park. I found some incredibly beautiful jewelry here, cut from the local pink stone Rhodochrosite. Huh?? Of course the sexy Spanish name is Piedra Rosa. No photos available from my purchases as gifts to family and friends are best when they are surprises =D assuming they are reading my blog here, salad shooting as my brother Chris says. Julie, my sis, says I suck all the oxygen out of the room. They’re kidding, right? I am a April Fool baby and do have a high level of energy and enthusiasm. Today, I’m all El Turista.
Speaking of shopping and BA, there are TWO EXCHANGE RATES here, so pay attention… and ask me offline about this. Also you may have notice one photo from above that was curiously out of time sequence, or not, no worries. Since I’m shooting ALL of these photos on my Samsung Note 2 smartphone, and doing NO EDITING at all, except reducing the size to 1200 x 900, so my web master Chris Jenkins (Need a high-end web strategy and site?) isn’t yelling at me about load times and such. See it’s back to Math, what I’m always trying to explain and share with my delightful nieces Paloma and Sabrina. See everything boils down to math, and they are both smart, really smart, however they are also “cursed” with beauty. See IF they get lazy because they are beautiful, because the world will wait on them, IF they let it. instead of their having to struggle and work extra hard like most of humanity, they might not fulfill their potentials completely. But I have faith, they’ve been raised well by Melissa (Paloma) and my sis Julie (Sabrina) both hardworking single moms, both my Hermosas and Amigas. Anyhoo, back to BA…
This lady was auditioning for the part in the (HOPEFULLY) upcoming film, Swingers 2. If you say the film, with Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, and the scene with the old couple performing Staying Alive by the Bee Gees, well then you get this and will smile, if not then rent the excellent film Swingers or just keep reading. It’s a guys guy film, for guys. Classico!
What I’ve learned so far as El Turista is this: you MUST try, at least a bit, to speak to people IN SPANISH. Even if you’re horrible, like me, and they speak perfecto English, it’s rude and you’ll get the Frio shoulder if you don’t make the attempt. The South Americans I’ve met, and here the Argentinian’s specifically are super friendly and welcoming, but they warm up quickly if you try to connect with them in their native language. And we do try, Por Favor!!
