Purpose – Key to a Longer Life

Dan Buettner presents seven keys to living a longer life – an average of 11-12 years longer and an increase in the number of 100+ people living in a society.

There’s one of those seven I’d like to discuss – Purpose – a reason for getting out of bed in the morning.  People in Okinawa have a special word for this concept – Ikigai. Equally notable they do not have a word for retirement.

What is your Ikigai?

Ikigai

For me it is improving lives. The most moving thing I know is when someone “breaks through” and accomplishes their long-term goal or achieves something they never thought possible. I sit on the edge of my seat, moved to tears in some cases, when the protagonist of a movie achieves this result. I eagerly watch Ted Talks to see something special, hear some amazing concept, and watch a person who has overcome amazing odds convey some of the secret to that success.

I’ve spent a lifetime breaking through my own barriers and now help others do the same.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? Take a look at this talk and comment on your reasons below. We all look forward to your amazing ideas, commitments, and struggles. And to seeing you get everything you ever hoped and dreamed. Remember, create a Purpose, the key to a longer life.
